In late May, I received the wonderful news that I was accepted into the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis. Â It’s a workshop where 12 composers are selected among 300 applicants from around the globe to spend a month working with Mr. Bellis, meeting with A-List composers such as Hans Zimmer, Thomas Newman, John Powell, James Newton Howard, and others. Film music executives, film music agents, film music editors, musicians, and other key figures in the film music industry also donate their time to educate the participants in all aspects of the film scoring business. The icing on the cake on this wonderful workshop is also the scoring assignment given to all 12 participants where near the end of the workshop, each participant composes, conducts, and records the music cue with a 62-piece orchestra made up of Los Angeles’ best musicians at well-known scoring stage such as Fox, Sony, or Warner Bros.
I’m grateful, ecstatic and beyond words to have been selected. This workshop is considered a “finishing school” according to Richard Bellis in one of his many interviews as leader and mentor of the workshop.
Being a part of this workshop is truly an honor, and I’m very humbled to be among 11 other talented composers from around the world.
